A building I had walked by countless times before but never noticed (It's down a bit of an alley). I used to live in one of the buildings in the background. A cat living in the middle of all this.
I know I am going crazy with this one subject but I noticed a wasp on the flower driven mad by the cold. It's thorax was constantly stinging and it moved very slowly. Knowing there may not be another bright day in the near fututre I took many pictures as the confused dying little thing wandered about. Turns out I was wrong before. The flowers are still visited.
Well, It is almost open now. The first pedals are turning brown. They are in the back, hidden. It is quite large. Maybe 20 cm/ 8 inches wide. THis is the same dahlia of course mentioned below that has taken a month now to not quite open.
With winter creeping slowly in and the smell of fallen leaves all around the plants on the deck still strive to produce flowers. Each misshapen and dulled from the cold. No bees come to visit them. They exist for an unused purpose. To me they are reminders of a happy, adventurous summer now gone by. There is something beautiful about it. I have not got the words to explain it further.
